Job Introduction

A new opportunity for two Care and Response Officer’s to join our brilliant team supporting Milton Keynes residents.

The Care and Response Community Alarm service helps people feel safe and secure at home so they can live full independent lives, we listen and provide support when it is most needed. We provide a mobile response to all areas of Milton Keynes. So far, we have provided over 5000 alarm units to local residents which enables vulnerable people to call for assistants at any time of the day or night.

As a Care and Response Officer you’ll join the team on site at our dedicated call centre in Stantonbury which receives around 10,000 calls a month. You’ll work across all aspects of the service as a call handler, mobile responder and installer of equipment in people’s homes. Full training is provided for all aspects of the role.

The Care and Response Community Alarm Service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You’ll be required to work a 37-hour week across a range of shifts including days and nights. There is some flexibility for weekend working, just evening hours or weekday hours. 

Main Responsibility

  • Respond to emergency calls from people with a variety of needs using the Community Alarm Centre call handling system.
  • Programming, installing, maintenance and collection of Telecare equipment.
  • Act as a mobile responder, assessing the situation, offering basic first aid and referring to emergency services as required.
  • Maintain and update manual and computerised systems.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An awareness of the needs of vulnerable people in the community.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, dependent upon the needs of the service.
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and recording and sharing information.
  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
