Senior Occupational Therapist

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking to make a meaningful impact in integrated health and social care?

We’re seeking a dynamic and proactive Senior Occupational Therapist to join our innovative team working at the intersection of social care and community health.

This role plays a pivotal part in optimising care packages, supporting complex discharges, and delivering high-quality functional assessments.

You’ll work closely with NHS Therapy teams, MKCC Community Occupational Therapy Service, and social work teams to ensure seamless transitions and effective interventions that reduce long-term care costs while enhancing service user independence.

This is a site-based role.

Main Responsibility

  • Conduct complex OT assessments for service users with increased needs, particularly within the first 12 weeks post-discharge. 
  • Lead on care package optimisation, including reducing double-handed care where appropriate.
  • Manage and support Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs), including case delegation and supervision.
  • Triage referrals from hospital and community settings, addressing urgent manual handling and equipment needs.
  • Collaborate with NHS and ASC teams to bridge service gaps and ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide expert input on equipment provision outside NHS Therapy team’s remit and support discharge planning from care homes and out-of-area cases.
  • Contribute to service development, including data capture workflows and training via the Care Academy.

The Ideal Candidate

  • HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with significant post-qualification experience in adult social care or community settings.
  • Skilled in complex assessments, equipment provision, and manual handling. 
  • Confident in managing staff and working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of integrated care pathways and the ability to navigate between health and social care systems.
  • Excellent communication, triage, and case management skills.
  • Committed to service improvement and data-informed practice.

For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.

Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
