Family Help Practitioner

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Family Help Practitioner to join our Children’s Services team and work with families who need dedicated, practical support to help children thrive. 

Based in one of our community Family Help Hubs, you’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team who work closely with families, local organisations and other professionals.

This is a rewarding role where you’ll build strong relationships with children and families, carry out assessments and provide direct support. 

You’ll also help us make a positive difference to our communities by delivering early, consistent and well-planned help. Training and ongoing support will be provided.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibility

  • Build trusted relationships with families as their consistent point of contact throughout their support.
  • Carry out assessments using approved tools to understand children’s needs and levels of risk.
  • Develop clear, practical intervention plans and act as Lead Professional when needed.
  • Manage a caseload of medium and high‑need cases with regular supervision.
  • Keep accurate records and prepare high‑quality written reports.
  • Work closely with partner agencies to plan and deliver support that meets the needs of the whole family.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Someone who is dedicated, respectful and collaborative in the way they work with colleagues and families.
  • A person with a relevant Level three qualification, or experience that demonstrates equivalent knowledge.
  • Someone who can assess, plan and deliver effective support in medium‑risk situations.
  • A clear communicator who can analyse information and write good‑quality case records.
  • Someone confident working as part of a multi‑agency team and willing to challenge concerns appropriately.
  • A person able to travel around Milton Keynes. A UK driving licence, business insurance and access to a car are required for some roles.
  • If you’re offered the role, we’ll arrange an Enhanced DBS check as part of our pre-employment process (unless you’re already registered with the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
