Environmental Health Practitioner - Food & Safety Team

Job Introduction

We have a brilliant opportunity for an Environmental Health Practitioner to join our Food and Safety Team.

Your role will be an authorised food inspector delivering our food safety official controls programme, providing guidance on, and investigating a range of food safety and health and safety matters.

You’ll be a key member of the team, participating in many high profile and complex projects, and working collaboratively to support team members across the environmental health service.

Main Responsibility

  • Deliver food hygiene interventions, including inspecting the full range of food businesses.
  • Investigate a range of food related and health & safety complaints. You will participate in a range of related projects.
  • Contribute to other environmental health roles including the provision of Primary Authority guidance to our partners.

The Ideal Candidate

  • You will be an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Environmental Health professional (EHRB or CIEH Registered Environmental Health practitioner or equivalent).
  • You must hold a baseline qualification to show you are food competent under the Food Law Code of Practice and hold a suitable qualification to allow you to work as a health and safety inspector in accordance with the health and safety competency framework.
  • Experience as an authorised officer in food safety and health and safety matters and be familiar with the wide range of enforcement powers in such roles.
  • A team player who can work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, effectively manage their caseload and take initiative.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business use. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
