Education Access Manager

Job Introduction

Do you have a passion for the importance of education to children? Do you want to work in a team that ensures all children living in Milton Keynes City have access to education? We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual who shares our passion for facilitating education access for children in Milton Keynes City.

You will be a vital part of the team that ensures that every child in Milton Keynes City has access to a suitable full-time education by being operationally responsible for the running of a service which provides advice, information and processes applications for access to education.

You will work with a range of stakeholders including, schools and children’s services colleagues. This is a hybrid role with the requirement to come into the office once a week & we offer a full range of IT products that allow you to work from home effectively. The role also requires a DBS check.

Main Responsibility

  • You will be responsible for managing a team of up to 5 people and be accountable for the operational management and performance of that team.
  • You  will represent the council at Admissions Appeals.
  • You will safeguard children and young people identified as potentially being at risk through contact with the service.
  • You will ensure that every child has access to a suitable, full-time education via early years placement and promptly processing school admissions applications, considering home to school transport eligibility and escalating very challenging access issues.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to a degree level or experience of working in a school with a good understanding of relevant legislation. ​

  • Someone who can multitask and demonstrate resilience under pressure. ​

  • Effective communicator with a wide range of people. ​

  • Able to answer difficult questions and challenge professionally and robustly.
