EHC Quality Senior Lead

Job Introduction

We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced EHC Quality Practice Lead (Senior Teacher) to join our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) service. 

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference for children and young people in Milton Keynes. 

You’ll lead on improving the quality of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring they reflect individual needs and meet our SEND Strategy priorities.

Main Responsibility

  • Work in partnership with the Assessment/EHCP Strategic Lead and SEND Partnership to ensure EHCPs are high quality and person-centred.
  • Deliver training and coaching to education colleagues across schools, settings and post-16 providers to improve EHCP standards.
  • Supervise the EHC Quality Practice Practitioner and support team development through CPD.
  • Lead audits, data analysis and reporting to drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as lead for complaints, mediation and dispute resolution, and represent the Council as an expert witness in SEND tribunals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and policy, and deputise for the Strategic Lead when required.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A relevant teaching or postgraduate qualification and at least three years’ senior leadership experience in education or local government.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND principles, legislation and best practice.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to inspire, challenge and empower others.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, including the ability to coach and influence.
  • Resilience and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work across a range of environments.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours and holiday cover.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to confirm your appointment without these documents.

If you’re offered the role, we’ll arrange an Enhanced DBS check as part of our pre-employment process (unless you’re already registered with the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
