We’re seeking an experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to join our Community Learning MK Adult Learning team, where we’re dedicated to making a positive difference in our community.
You’ll support adult learners and young people with a range of abilities and levels, from entry level to Level 2 (including some with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities/Learning Difficulties and Disabilities). You may also be required to deliver 121 sessions.

Main Responsibility
- Plan and deliver courses using approved planning tools such as schemes of work, session plans, and individual learning plans.
- Apply a full range of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies to meet learner needs and organisational targets.
- Collaborate with curriculum managers and colleagues to implement quality assurance arrangements and contribute to the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Act as an assessor and/or internal quality assurer where appropriate, supporting the development and delivery of qualifications.
- Promote and comply with policies including but not limited to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Prevent, online safety, and Equality and Diversity.
- Commit to professional standards and continuous professional development.
The Ideal Candidate
- You’ll be qualified to PGCE or equivalent and have at least two years’ experience teaching the functional skills core curriculum to adults and/or young people.
- You’ll possess a passion for empowering and enabling learners to achieve their full potential.
- Organised, independent, conscientious and self-motivated.
- A natural collaborator, you will enjoy teaching and working as part of a dynamic team.
- Able to get about, ideally with a driving license.
- Flexible – you might be asked to work in another place and asked to teach at short notice.
- Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced/Barred List DBS will be required.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
