Deputy Team Manager

Job Introduction

To be an experienced, qualified and registered Social Worker with Best Interest Assessor qualification, who is the first point of contact for team members; providing support, advice and guidance. To deputise in the absence of the Team Manager, and to assist them in the professional management and leadership of the team; ensuring an effective response to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessment requests. To assist with the management of complex DoLS cases on an individual basis. To escalate matters to the Team Manager where appropriate.

Main Responsibility


  • Co-ordinating work, providing professional support, allocation of work and the monitoring of case loads and support to social workers and community liaison officers.
  • To assist and advise Best Interest Assessors with the management of more complex DoLS cases.
  • To undertake regular staff supervisions and to carry out appraisals with staff to assess their performance in line with MKC policies and procedures.
  • To be supportive of multi disciplinary work, encouraging effective team working, which leads to improved service user and carer outcomes.
  • The management of complaints allocated to them by the Team Manager.
  • To monitor DoLS referrals received by the team ensuring they are responded to within agreed timescales.
  • Monitoring and reporting of the activities of the team, agreeing outcomes regarding Best Interest assessment and DoLS decisions.
  • To undertake work as an authorising signatory on behalf of the Local Authority
