Job Introduction
We’re seeking a committed and highly motivated Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) Personal Advisor to join our dedicated and friendly team who support young people across Milton Keynes.
Our aim is to help young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) return to learning or work. We support them to identify and overcome barriers, make informed decisions about their future, and reach their full potential.
As a Personal Advisor, you’ll work directly with young people identified as NEET, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, those within the Youth Justice Service, children in care, care leavers and those at risk of becoming NEET.
This role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team and supporting settings across Milton Keynes to reduce NEET numbers.
This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home-based roles require a minimum of one day in the office/site per week.

Main Responsibility
- Work across Milton Keynes in various settings and virtually, delivering person-centred careers information, advice and guidance to targeted young people.
- Manage a caseload of young people, helping them overcome barriers and develop a realistic, flexible action plan.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and partners, both internally and externally, to achieve the best progression outcomes and opportunities for young people, including those at risk of NEET.
- Support young people with applications, referrals to training providers, CVs, interview techniques, and developing employability skills.
- Monitor and track young people’s engagement in education, employment and training, identifying those who are not participating and offering support to re-engage.
- Accurately record data to ensure all statutory returns are completed to a high standard and performance targets are achieved.
The Ideal Candidate
- Professional qualifications: Dip CG/QCG/NVQ4/Level 6 in Advice and Guidance, plus evidence of recent CPD.
- Experience working with vulnerable young people with multiple barriers, including those with special educational needs or disabilities.
- Strong communication skills and ICT proficiency.
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and inclusion practices.
- Ability to respond flexibly and work across different environments.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to confirm your appointment without these documents.
If you’re offered the role, we’ll arrange an Enhanced DBS check as part of our pre-employment process (unless you’re already registered with the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
