Job Introduction
A great opportunity for an experienced, skilled and caring professional to join us as Substance Misuse Coordinator. You’ll lead and coordinate our busy and friendly Youth Drug and Alcohol Solutions (YDAS) Team.
YDAS provides interventions and support for people up to the age of 18 who are affected by their own or someone else’s substance use. We also provide drug and alcohol training sessions, workshops, and advice and information for professionals, parents and young people.
You’ll join a caring team who are always looking for innovative and creative ways to develop and deliver interventions. Our aim is to support young people in making more informed choices and enable them to develop the skills they need to flourish and lead healthy, happy and safe lives.
The team sits within Children’s Services under the umbrella of the Youth Justice Support Service. You’ll have the opportunity to work collaboratively and effectively to provide the best support options for young people with varied and complex needs.

An Enhanced DBS, driving licence and access to a vehicle are required for this role.
This role is site-based role, and interviews will be held on 21 March.
Main Responsibility
- Day to day coordination and management of a busy youth drug and alcohol service, leading on safeguarding and supervising and supporting staff in offering best possible interventions for young people.
- Ensuring the delivering of evidenced based and high-quality interventions to young people in Milton Keynes.
- Recording activity and interventions through the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS), performance reporting and presenting quantitative and qualitative information to public health commissioners and professionals regarding service delivery and performance.
- Managing a caseload of young people and completing assessments, risk assessments, devising care plans, and reviewing and updating these as required for all young people accessing support.
- Attending multiagency meetings and supporting colleagues by providing advice and information regarding substances and substance use when required
- Delivering drug and alcohol training sessions to professionals, parents, communities, and young people.
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree or other relevant professional qualification/specialist work experience and experience of working with young people, those affected by substance use.
- Experience of supervising and managing staff.
- Experience of effectively managing safeguarding concerns.
- Ability to promote service and build positive relationships with young people and other professionals.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, IT skills, and experience of delivering training and workshops.
- For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.
- Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
