Library Operations Manager

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a dedicated Library Operations Manager to help us keep our much-loved libraries running smoothly and welcoming for everyone. 

You’ll play a key role in supporting our colleagues, volunteers and the communities who rely on our ten libraries, which you’ll ensure operate safely and effectively.

You’ll be someone who enjoys supporting people, thrives in a busy environment and can confidently lead a team.

The working pattern for this role is over two weeks. Please see the exact details attached.

This is a site-based role.

Main Responsibility

  • Make sure paid colleagues and volunteers are in place so our libraries can open for their advertised times. 
  • Manage the collection and banking of income and petty cash following council policies. 
  • Collate and check colleague records and resolve day to day matters including pay and personal queries.
  • Support, develop and motivate frontline library colleagues to deliver great service in line with our priorities. 
  • Deputise for the Library Services Manager when required to maintain smooth operations. 
  • Lead on health and safety across all libraries, ensuring safeguarding and safety standards are met.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working in a management role, ideally within a library, with strong customer interaction experience. 
  • Confidence as a key holder and understanding of opening and closing buildings. 
  • The ability to de escalate, manage and resolve conflicts. 
  • Strong organisational skills to manage a varied workload and support colleagues through challenges. 
  • Good ICT skills, including Microsoft Office and library management systems. 
  • Significant experience managing colleagues and volunteers, including one to ones, training and motivating teams. 
  • If you are offered the role, we will carry out a Basic DBS check.
  • If you enjoy making decisions, planning ahead and supporting a team, this is the role for you.
  • To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to confirm your appointment without these documents.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
