Lead Surveyor - Housing Compliance

Job Introduction

Our Housing Maintenance and Investment team plays a vital role in ensuring our 11,000+ properties are safe and well maintained for residents across Milton Keynes. We deliver repairs, improvements, and construction projects that make a real difference to people’s lives.

As Lead Surveyor, you’ll lead on housing safety, damp and mould management, and compliance. You will provide expert advice, manage complex cases, and oversee contractor performance to ensure high standards.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced professional with strong technical knowledge and leadership skills.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibility

  • Lead building surveying and project management for housing repairs, improvements, and construction.
  • Act as technical lead for damp, mould, and housing safety compliance.
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement in housing safety.
  • Manage contractor performance and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Prepare reports for governance and regulatory bodies.
  • Mentor and develop surveyors and supervisors within the team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying and professional membership.
  • Experienced in Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and housing safety legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of building pathology, especially damp and mould.
  • Skilled in contract management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Able to prioritise, make sound decisions, and deliver results under pressure

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
