Council Homes Asbestos Officer

Job Introduction

We’re seeking an Asbestos Officer to carry out annual asbestos re-inspection surveys in communal areas of council-owned residential blocks.

You’ll manage data quality and maintain accurate records in our asset management system. 

You’ll also engage residents, monitor contractor standards, and provide advice and training to ensure we remain compliant with legislation and safety regulations.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibility

  • Complete annual asbestos re-inspection surveys for housing blocks.
  • Collect and manage inspection data using NEC systems.
  • Update asbestos records and run reports for compliance tracking.
  • Liaise with residents and collaborate with housing teams.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure safety standards.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and training on asbestos management.
  • Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for asbestos removal.

The Ideal Candidate

  • BOHS P402 or RSPH Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Surveying (essential).
  • Knowledge of asbestos surveying and relevant guidance (HSG264, UKAS).
  • Minimum two years’ experience in asbestos surveying, ideally in residential blocks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders.
  • IT literate and confident handling large data sets.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Comfortable working from ladders and accessing confined spaces.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
