Landscape Services Officer

Job Introduction

We’re seeking someone with good communication skills to join us as a Landscaping Services Officer.

Our Landscape Team are responsible for all city council landscape maintenance, working with our service partner to deliver a good quality environment for local people.

This role will specialise in working with our Housing Team, liaising with colleagues, tenants and contractors.

You’ll need to be able to help resolve potentially difficult situations, and communicate the city council’s green ambitions. Experience or qualifications in horticulture is required, but support and training for this specific role will be provided.

You’ll be based in our Bleak Hall depot and work on sites across the city.

Main Responsibility

  • Monitor contractor activity within the landscape function to ensure best value, best practice and compliance with legislation at all times.
  • Play a key role in ensuring the Council maintains, manages, and develops its landscape asset.
  • Delivering Landscape inspections, dealing with Landscape and public realm related enquiries and ensuring local issues and priorities are identified.​

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience and/or considerable knowledge in landscape maintenance and/or contractual management.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and unsupervised to manage multiple demands.
  • Confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage effective relationships, including in ‘conflict’ situations.
  • Able to carry out inspections and undertake duties in all weathers enduring extremes of heat and cold.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
