Family Support Assistant

Job Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Family Support Assistant to join the Family Assessment and Support Team (FAST) .

This service operates 8am – 9pm 7 days per week, in order to meet the assessed needs of families in their own homes, providing practical support to assist families with improving home conditions, implementing household and morning routines and providing budgeting support. This work is completed in accordance with a Family Support plan which is drawn up and overseen by the case holding Social Worker.

You will need to have experience of working with children and families, but this does not need to be within a Statutory service and be committed to working together with parents to improve their children’s home environment, routines and support parents to meet their children’s basic needs.

This role involves lone working but as part of a large and busy team there will also be opportunities to support colleagues with joint visits and pieces of work as required. You will need to have the use of your own car for work purposes.

This is a 25 hours per week post from 8am -1pm shift Monday – Friday with some flexibility depending on workload to start later in the morning if required

Main Responsibility

  • To work with families in their own homes providing practical support to improve home conditions and household safety 
  • To undertake assessment of family’s financial circumstances and provide budgeting support, basic debt advice and signpost to money advice services
  • To support families with developing effective morning routines for children including healthy eating and school routines
  • To keep accurate and timely electronic records of interventions completed with families.
  • To contribute to multi agency meetings as required providing accurate written reports of work.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and IT skills.
  • Direct work skills with  adults.
  • Ability to work flexibly alongside other agencies/professionals and work effectively as a team.
  • Emotional and physical resilience to work in a practical support role with vulnerable families in their own homes.
