Job Introduction

The SEND Team in Milton Keynes is seeking to recruit an exceptional EHC (Education, Health and Care) Practitioner to be part of a dynamic and solution focused team.

You will be part of the EHC Specialist Teaching Team supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities in schools, settings and the community across the Milton Keynes Local Area.

You will join an experienced team, in delivering educational provision directly to children and young people, working with a wide range of agencies and supporting settings and families through the EHCP review process as necessary.

Main Responsibility

  • Deliver educational packages to children and young people with an EHCP in Milton Keynes who have moved to the area, where placements have broken down and when accessing schools or settings has become a challenge.
  • Work within schools and settings advising and modelling good practise for children and young people with EHCPs.
  • Write about and support the delivery of provision and outcomes for children and young people with an EHCP.
  • Liaise, support and professionally challenge schools and settings across Milton Keynes to ensure they are fulfilling their educational responsibilities in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Work closely with other agencies and services in a collaborative and holistic way, sharing information and planning together, to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
  • Ensure that schools are aware of and follow safeguarding processes and procedures in Milton Keynes including children missing from education, children absent from school and children on part-time timetables.
  • Be able to offer informed advice and next steps to resolve concerns effectively.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role you will be

  • an experienced practitioner, who enjoys working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • a good team player and have a positive, resilient outlook with the child or young person at the centre.
  • Have excellent ICT skills, be confident in the use of MS Teams, PowerPoint, Word, LA programmes and other technologies that are supportive to children and young people with SEND.
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, young people, families and professionals.
  • Have a flexible approach to resolving challenging situations and conversations, and be able to maintain a calm and professional manner in a variety of environments.
  • Have a particular interest in and experience of one or all age groups – Post 16, Secondary, Primary and Early Years.
  • To produce materials and resources to engage children and young people in purposeful learning experiences.
  • Have a full UK driving license and access to a car is essential as you will be requested to travel to settings all over and  outside of Milton Keynes. You will be required to provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business use. This is required for any roles that requires the employee to travel to more than one place of work.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).
