Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a Deputy Team Manager to join our Adult Social Care service at Milton Keynes City Council on a 12‑month secondment to cover maternity leave. This is a rewarding leadership role where you’ll help shape high‑quality support for working age adults across our city. The Working Age Adults team work with people under the age of 65 who have a learning and/or physical disability or a diagnosis of autism, supporting them to take part in social activities while keeping them safe from harm.
Working Age Adults is a multidisciplinary and supportive team that values quality supervision and peer support. This approach helps colleagues develop, feel confident in their role, and deliver the best outcomes for residents. The team is built on the belief that residents should have equal opportunities, regardless of disability or diagnosis, and embraces strengths‑based working. As Deputy Team Manager, you’ll support the Team Manager with the day‑to‑day leadership of the team, providing professional guidance, oversight and supervision, and ensuring timely, safe and person‑centred practice in line with legislation and council priorities.

Main Responsibility
- Monitor referrals and allocations to ensure work is responded to within agreed timescales.
- Provide professional oversight and authorisation of assessments, reviews, care plans and safeguarding enquiries.
- Coordinate workloads and support colleagues by monitoring caseloads and priorities.
- Offer regular, high‑quality supervision that supports development and safe practice.
- Represent the council at multi‑agency meetings alongside the Team Manager.
- Promote effective multidisciplinary working to improve outcomes for people and their carers.
The Ideal Candidate
- A qualified social worker with a relevant social work professional qualification i.e., CQSW, CSS, Dip SW, BA (Hons) in Social Work.
- Registered with Social Work England and committed to continuous professional development.
- Experienced in frontline adult social care and statutory practice.
- Confident supporting colleagues in complex and demanding situations.
- Someone who leads with a strengths‑based and inclusive approach.
- A collaborative role model who reflects our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable)
As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
