Main Responsibility
- Expert Advice and Training: Stay up-to-date with Data Protection, Subject Access Requests (SAR), Freedom of Information (FOI), and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). Provide advice, support, and training to staff and managers to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Database Management: Maintain and update databases for SARs, FOI, and EIR requests. Liaise with key colleagues to collate relevant information and ensure timely, high-quality responses.
- Risk Mitigation: Assess breach reports, support colleagues in mitigating risks, and implement improved data protection practices. Escalate issues to senior colleagues or the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as needed.
- Customer Communication: Communicate directly with customers regarding data protection and access to information requests.
- Collaboration: Work with services to develop or adopt Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and sharing agreements. Assist in maintaining records for UK GDPR compliance.
- Reporting: Produce reports on data protection and access to information requests, promoting transparency and improving compliance with legislation.
- Law Enforcement Liaison: Liaise with police forces to provide access to records related to investigations, preparing files for inspection and disclosures for judicial processes.
The Ideal Candidate
- Education and Experience: Qualified to A-level with experience in a professional environment. Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Protection Act, and confidentiality requirements.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex principles clearly. High standard of literacy and effective written communication skills.
- IT Proficiency: Ability to use standard office IT packages and other role-based tools.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
