Comms Engineer

Job Introduction

An opportunity to join our modern, supportive ICT team in a third line technical role at Milton Keynes City Council.

As Comms Engineer you’ll support the activities of all ICT users across the city council, including networking, firewall and telephone infrastructure as well as key corporate services such as security, internet access, authentication and core Microsoft services.

This role is based in our city centre offices.

Main Responsibility

  • Provide input, best practice guidance and support of core infrastructure solutions utilised by Milton Keynes City Council.
  • Provide technical support for the delivery of projects (both implementations and upgrades).
  • Engage with stakeholders, internal or external, following enquiries and project work requests and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain, and take an active role in, the development of infrastructure supporting core business systems.
  • Implement, support and maintain Milton Keynes City Councils network, security and communications infrastructure.
  • Conduct tests of the hardware and/or software affected using available test procedures and diagnostic tools.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to A level or equivalent or NVQ level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification in ICT.
  • Demonstrate experience in a technical role in a medium to large organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to communicate technical points at a user level and the ability to translate technical solutions to non-technical colleagues.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
