Job Introduction

We deliver the Revenues & Benefits service for Milton Keynes City Council and Horsham District Council. Our Business Systems team underpin this service by ensuring we provide an efficient and customer focussed service for residents and businesses.

Working within our Business Systems team, you’ll be assisting with the day-to-day support of our existing Revenues & Benefits systems as well as helping to implement a programme of IT enhancements aimed at improving our service for customers and delivering savings to our Councils.

Your technical system administration expertise will ensure we’re getting things done with minimal fuss, so you’ll need to work well under pressure and be able to manage your workload.

As well helping to support our everyday needs you will be key in supporting new projects, from helping to evaluate the potential impact of these works to troubleshooting once they’ve been implemented.

We’re looking for someone with great communication skills and a relevant IT or IRRV Revenues qualification (or equivalent experience) and you’ll have a working knowledge of Capita One for Business Rates and Council Tax & Benefits and/or NEC Revenues & Benefits systems. You’ll also have the ability to identify and resolve faults in a Revenues database environment and provide technical support to operational colleagues.

Main Responsibility

  • Maintain and administer the IT systems used by the Revenues and Benefits Service to ensure that all systems are available for the maximum period and working correctly.
  • Supporting the Operational teams with system queries, including liaison with the software companies/IT as necessary.
  • Responsible for providing financial and statistical data to assist with government statistical returns, FOI Requests, or any other information to meet the business needs.
  • Providing system support to Service Improvement Projects as well as new enhancements within the Service areas.
  • Support the Annual Billing process including Benefits uprating and year end calculations alongside the Council Tax New year charges.
  • Support the implementation and testing of software releases in line with legislation and service needs. Completing test plans as well as providing briefings to Senior Managers on system changes.

The Ideal Candidate

  • English and Maths GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent.
  • Extensive working Knowledge & Understanding of Revenues & Benefits Processes and functions.
  • IT skills to a level which will enable effective management of the implementation and monitoring of computerised information systems.
  • Respectful of the sensitivity of service data and able to operate with integrity and using professional judgement at all times.
  • Ability to work accurately and under pressure, and able to plan and prioritise work as demonstrated by evidence of effective personal work plans, including taking account of the involvement of others, and delivery to deadlines.
  • Able to work on own initiative and assume responsibility, demonstrates the ability to find creative solutions to problems.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
