Specialist Business Support Assistant

Job Introduction

The Business Support Team for Education and Learning have a wide remit within Children's Services and Milton Keynes City Council. Our colleagues work within Community Learning, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and support our Education Outcomes services.

We’re seeking a Specialist Business Support Assistant to contribute their skills to our Governor Support Team. You’ll assist with Governor recruitment, training, and invoicing.

No previous experience is required though you should be able to communicate to a high standard both verbally and in writing.

This is a home-based role where you’ll be expected to attend our Civic offices one day each week.

Main Responsibility

  • Governor Services (including traded work). Traded service team support, formal communications with governors (including new/outgoing correspondence), maintaining master meeting schedule, all aspects of traded service finance, support of statutory work, oversight and maintenance of bespoke systems specific to Governor Services.
  • Support for Governor Training (support for traded work). Support with course admin and facilitation, traded service finance with the use of bespoke systems specific to Governor Training. Review and updates to Leadership and Governance publications.
  • Governor recruitment - monitoring Governor vacancies and supporting statutory functions in relation to these, processing and liaison with Governing Boards/Advisors to fill vacancies and collaboration with Governors for schools where appropriate.
  • Headteacher Recruitment - support for School Improvement Partners (following purchase of traded service). Supporting all aspects of the traded service, including creation of application pack, facilitating advertising, supporting shortlisting/interview processes through to requesting and collating references. ​

The Ideal Candidate

  • We’re looking for someone who can be flexible and apply themselves to varied tasks with great attention to detail.
  • The ideal candidate will have Office 365 experience and be familiar with the use of its packages.
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbally to a high standard.
  • Able to work well as part of a team but also on their own initiative and able to work well under pressure.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
