Job Introduction
At Milton Keynes City Council, our Fostering Service is a vibrant, supportive, and forward-thinking team managed by an Operational Manager and supported by two Deputy Team Managers, our team is comprised of talented Social Workers, Assistant Social Workers, and a Recruitment Officer. Together, we form a strong fostering service focused on two key areas: Support & Supervision and Recruitment & Assessment.
We are currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Social Worker to join our Fostering Assessment and Recruitment team. In this dynamic role, you’ll provide essential assessment and support services to kinship carers, including Kinship and Connected Persons Foster Carers, Special Guardians, and Private Foster Carers. From home visits to impactful direct work with children, carers, and professionals, you’ll play a vital part in creating safe, nurturing environments where young lives can thrive.
You’ll work closely with social workers, families, and professionals on our Recruitment and Assessment side of the team within Children’s Social Care.

Main Responsibility
Supporting the completion of Kinship and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments.
Supporting the effective running of the duty system and contributing to team meetings.
Leading and participating in recruitment events to inspire new foster carers.
Project work to improve and develop the Fostering Service
Facilitating and attending Foster Carer and Special guardians Support Groups
Ensuring Foster Carer Compliance
Ability to manage own workload effectively and willing to support other staff when need arises.
The Ideal Candidate
Experienced in working with Children & Families or within Social Care.
Creative, resilient, and capable of working independently.
Skilled in communication—both written and verbal—with an ability to connect and inspire others
For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.
Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
