Service Manager (Principal Occupational Therapist)

Job Introduction

This is a new and exciting role in the Adults Directorate, reporting to the Head of Home Care, Reablement and Community OT.   The aim is to deliver inspirational and motivational management to a team of qualified and unqualified occupational therapists.  This role will contribute to the re-design and transformation of the service, whilst continuing a strong focus on delivering quality for the residents of Milton Keynes.

We want someone who will lead on excellence and undertake Principal Occupational therapy responsibilities as specified in the Care Act.   Someone who can champion occupational therapy and engage with key internal and external partners to promote multi-disciplinary case management to achieve efficiencies with service delivery.   

They will need to have extensive and proven experience of developing and implementing a workforce strategy with quantifiable performance results.  To demonstrate experience of effective performance management and resolution of complex HR issues.   Ultimately to be able to produce solution and business focused results. 

 

Main Responsibility

Delivering inspiring and motivational management to develop and guide a team of Occupational Therapists providing advice and feedback to ensure continued development and delivery of high-quality work.  Contribute to re-design of the service, leading on transformation and organisational change with a strong focus on delivery of objectives.

To champion excellence in Occupational Therapy practice and undertake Principal Occupational Therapy responsibilities as specified in the Care Act. To develop and implement Occupational Therapy Quality Standards and an Assurance Framework, exploring the use of a range of methods such as themed audits and observation of direct practice.  

To develop and implement a workforce strategy and plan for the COT Service, that includes ensuring the team has the right skill mix, achieved by robust recruitment and retention and developing a range of progression opportunities to support career development. 

Ensure a high standard of management across the service, including completion of 1:1s, reflective practice case management discussions, peer learning events and team meetings.  Working with colleagues to ensure delivery of appropriate training and monitor and address performance and fitness to practice issues.  Manage complex HR issues ensuring matters are resolved in accordance with policies.

Manage and monitor service budgets to ensure that financial targets are met, forecasts are accurate, and systems are in place to identify pressure areas and respond appropriately.

To promote Occupational Therapy as a key component of multi-disciplinary and integrated working in order to drive new ways of working and identify and achieve efficiencies and or savings.
