Job Introduction

No two days are the same for the award-winning MK Council communications team, as we cover public relations, branding and marketing, digital channels and social media, video production, employee communications and so much more, helping to engage local people in the great services their council provides, and showing that Milton Keynes is a fantastic place to live and work. We're a small, enthusiastic and friendly team, based in central MK with opportunities for home working, and we work closely with the council's senior leadership team. Lots of exciting projects are coming our way in the year ahead, and we're looking to branch out professionally and find even more inspiring ways to communicate.

  • Be a key part of our production studio, through which we make high quality live and pre-recorded broadcasts to staff, stakeholders and the public.
  • Help us create our first SharePoint staff intranet, making it easier for staff to find what they need.
  • Help to check and improve communications produced by services outside of the communications team, making sure they're easy to understand, accessible and on brand.
  • Get to know colleagues and make sure you're the first person they tell when there's useful council news to share.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Someone who can spot a news story and bring it to life using interesting facts and graphics.
  • Someone who can write in Plain English and turn complicated material into  short and snappy text.

  • Someone who can pick practical and technical points up quickly, ideally with experience of video production and/or internet creation.

  • Someone who enjoys talking to others and is able to put non-communications people at ease when interviewing them.

  • Someone who has at least two years of experience in communications role.
