Senior Application Support Engineer

Job Introduction

We’re looking for someone with extensive experience in IT application support to join our friendly and collaborative team as a Senior Application Support Engineer.

You’ll provide technical support for applications and software to end users and ensure robust, resilient, and secure applications are maintained and improved to comply with legislative requirements and business needs.

You’ll also act as a mentor to help other colleagues in the team reach their full potential.

Main Responsibility

  • Provide second-line technical support for applications and software to end users to ensure that robust/resilient and secure applications are maintained, improved and managed to comply with legislative requirements and business needs. 
  • Own, manage and resolve support calls to fix incidents and deliver service requests within agreed service levels.
  • Own, scope, plan and deliver medium-sized projects to maintain/develop the application portfolio.
  • Create and improve application documentation to increase understanding of the applications and to share knowledge within the team, ICT and across the city council when appropriate.
  • Act as a mentor within the team to help develop Application Support Engineers to reach their full potential.
  • Manage relationships with customers and suppliers to improve communication and understanding of business needs/technical requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive demonstrable technical experience in supporting IT applications (including pro-active monitoring and improvements to reduce the amount of support needed) working within agreed service levels.
  • Experience in scoping, planning, managing and delivering medium-sized IT projects, such as complex (multiple business areas and/or integrations) application upgrades.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Able to act as a mentor to coach colleagues to develop to their full potential.
