Schools HR Consultant

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity available within our HR Team for a proactive individual to join us as a HR Consultant for schools.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a quality service to Head Teachers, School Business Managers, and the Local Authority on HR related matters.

This will be a varied role whereby you will have the opportunity to get involved in creating and delivering HR solutions according to business need as well as supporting projects, implementing change, and coaching and advising key stakeholders.

The role will be suitable for someone with experience in working in a large-scale organisation, who can demonstrate strong relationship management skills and ideally have experience of working in the education sector and with trade unions.

Main Responsibility

  • Develop positive working relationships with key stakeholders to promote collaboration and communication.
  • Have oversight of critical ER casework and organisational change ensuring policies are followed and risks identified.
  • Review and develop HR policies for schools ensuring legislative changes and best practice are reflected and the policies are rolled out across the school network. 
  • Develop and contribute towards audits which ensure compliance with policies, pay arrangements and governance.
  • Collaborate with the wider Business Partnering team on projects and workstreams.
  • Develop and deliver training which improves leaders capability and knowledge on people management.
  • Attend forums and meetings on behalf of the Local Authority on school related matters.

The Ideal Candidate

  • CIPD qualified to current Level 7 and MCIPD or demonstrable Continuous Professional Development in HR and demonstrable Employment law knowledge.
  • Significant knowledge of employment legislation and best practice including Employment Rights Act, The Equality Act, Transfer of undertakings, Trade Union and Labour Relations Act and ACAS code of practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to form relationships and influence key stakeholders and communicate in a clear and concise manner. Significant experience of leading complex employee relations issues through to appeal stages identifying and maintaining levels of risk.
  • Experience of organisational change (restructures and TUPE transfers) and working with a variety of unions.
