Relief Adult Learning Support Assistant

We’re seeking Learning Support Assistants to help our teaching colleagues deliver learning to adults and young people. 

 

You’ll be educated to Level 4/grade C in GCSE maths and English, have experience of supporting teaching and learning in the classroom and have a passion for enabling learners with learning difficulties or disabilities to achieve their full potential. 

 

We’re based at a dedicated Learning Centre in Central Milton Keynes Library although we offer courses in centres around the city so you may be required to work in a variety of locations. 

 

We are a Good Provider as rated by Ofsted and Matrix.  

 

This is a site-based role for which an enhanced/barred list DBS check is required.

Main Responsibility

You will be required to: 

  • Work closely with the class tutor and curriculum manager to support learners who face barriers to learning such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and those with SEND.
  • Support the adaptation of learning materials to suit individual needs.
  • Work one to one or in small groups with learners who have learning difficulties, disabilities, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to tutors using specific templates.
  • Liaise with tutors to plan and deliver tailored support.
  • Help with classroom set up and resource preparation.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all.

  • Communication skills: Clear and empathetic communication with learners and tutors.
  • Active listener: Understanding student needs and concerns.
  • Adaptability: Respond to different learning styles and classroom dynamics,
  • Patience and Empathy: Support learners with diverse needs calmly and compassionately.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
