Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a Programme Support Officer to join our Highways Service.
This is a rewarding role where you’ll play an important part in supporting the delivery of highway projects that help keep Milton Keynes moving and connected. You’ll work at the heart of our capital programme, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and up to date so that projects can be delivered effectively.
Working closely with colleagues, contractors, councillors and external partners, you’ll help coordinate project information, monitor progress and support good project governance across the service.

Site-Based role
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility
- Maintaining and updating information relating to the Highways Capital Programme to ensure accurate records and reporting.
- Producing and sharing progress reports, project updates and management information to support decision-making.
- Managing project documentation and acting as the custodian of project information, ensuring records are current, accessible and controlled through effective version management.
- Supporting the management of project risks, issues, actions, change controls and programme governance processes.
- Acting as the main point of contact for Highways project requests and responding to enquiries from colleagues, contractors, councillors and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the Programme Manager with financial monitoring by maintaining programme budget and spend information.
- Helping to establish and maintain effective systems, processes and documentation that support successful project delivery.
- Promoting project management best practice and supporting colleagues to follow agreed processes and standards.
The Ideal Candidate
- Significant knowledge and practical experience of project management techniques, tools and approaches.
- Excellent record-keeping skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage information accurately.
- The ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and in conversation.
- Strong information technology skills, including Microsoft Excel and the ability to analyse and present information effectively.
- A flexible and pragmatic approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- The ability to manage your own workload, work independently and prioritise competing demands effectively.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality support for colleagues, partners and stakeholders.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.
Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.
Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.
The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
