Job Introduction
We're looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Library Assistant to work at our busy Bletchley Library on a part time basis.
You'll be front of house dealing directly with customers and helping them while they use the library. Therefore, excellent customer service skills are essential.
You will floor walk to ensure stock is returned to the shelves in an appropriate manner and assist customers using IT facilities.
This role works alternate Saturday mornings. Please see the attached document for the working pattern.
This Job Closes on 15th December - then a Shortlisting Questionnaire will be sent.
Interviews will be held on 7 January.
Main Responsibility
- Undertake counter and enquiry desk duties.
- Undertake administrative routines as required.
- Participate in training and supervision of library volunteers.
- Able to work with groups of children and deliver story times.
The Ideal Candidate
- GCSE maths and English A-C grade or relevant experience to demonstrate adequate levels of literacy and numeracy. ECDL: or equivalent IT skills by relevant experience.
- Experience in customer care service in private or public sector.
- Good communication skills for customers and colleagues.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm and helpful manner.
- Ability to drive would be desirable.
- For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
