Main Responsibility

We are recruiting to two Emergency Social Worker (ESWT) posts. Please state which post you are applying for:

ESWT Social Worker - Level 3 - 18.5 Hours per week – Permanent

ESWT Social Worker - Level 3 - 28 Hours per week – Fixed term 12 months

Both roles are Graded H1 (40221) – H4 (44428) Pro Rata – annualised hours contract. A £4,000 MRS payment and a 35% Alternative Working Pattern payment apply to both.

Experience, Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years frontline Children's Social Work experience
  • Social Work England Registered
  • Car driver and have use of a vehicle for business use

Skills Required

  • You will need to be experienced in risk assessment and able to work autonomously; liaising with other out of hours services as appropriate to ensure children and young people are safeguarded.
  • Experience of undertaking s47 enquiries is essential and preferably have undertaken achieving best evidence training.
  • You will have experience of crisis intervention work and be confident / competent with out of hours working and ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Good written and communication skills are essential, as well as a proven ability to work with vulnerable children and families that are in crisis/ at risk.

You will be registered with SW England with at least three years of experience in children’s social work. As a ESWT Social Worker you will work with the out of hours duty team responding to emergencies, working weekdays, evenings and weekends on a shift pattern.

Shifts include a combination of the following:

  • Midweek - Overnight 16:30 – 09:00 (16 hours) and daytime 9:00-17:00
  • Weekends and Bank holidays – 9:00-17:00, 13:00-21:00 and 21:00-9:00
  • Shift Pattern 18.5 hour post (Subject to change and flexible due to annualised hours arrangements)
  • Week 1 – No Shifts
  • Week 2 – No Shifts
  • Week 3 – Wednesday 16 hour overnight, Saturday 9-5
  • Week 4 – Sunday 1-9, Monday 16 hour overnight, Friday 16 hour overnight
  • Additional hours for supervision and training
  • Shift Pattern 28-hour post (Subject to change flexible due to annualised hours arrangements)
  • Week 1 – Sunday 21:00-9:00, Tuesday 9-5, Wednesday Overnight, Friday (every other month 21:00-9:00)
  • Week 2 – Tuesday Overnight, Saturday 9:00-17:00,
  • Week 3 – Monday Overnight, Friday Overnight
  • Week 4 – No Shifts

Please note for overnight shifts you will work from home; however, you may be required to attend the office or make visits in the community at any time. Weekend and bank holidays shifts are office based.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 3 years frontline Social Work experience
  • Social Work England Registered
  • Experience of out of hours working
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited management direction.
  • Experience of crisis intervention work
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Ability to work with vulnerable children and families that are in crisis/ at risk.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
