We’re recruiting a Laundry Assistant to join our Adult Social Care team at Milton Keynes City Council. In this rewarding role, you’ll help deliver an essential service that supports the dignity, comfort, and wellbeing of people across Milton Keynes.
You’ll be responsible for handling, cleaning, and returning laundry for service users, helping to ensure they receive a reliable, respectful, and high-quality service. Your work will directly support individuals in our community, making a real difference to their daily lives.

Site-Based role
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility
- Sorting dirty washing and safely loading washing machines and tumble dryers
- Operating laundry equipment including rotary irons
- Sorting clean pressed laundry and preparing items for return
- Ensuring all laundry is returned to the correct service user
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times
- Working in line with health and safety guidelines
- Supporting the delivery and collection of laundry when needed
- Covering the Laundry Driver role during absences such as sickness or annual leave
- Assisting the Laundry Co-ordinator with queries from service users
- Recording and handling information accurately

- A willingness to learn and complete relevant training
- Good basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Physical ability to carry out manual tasks such as lifting and moving items
- A flexible approach to meet service needs
- An understanding of the importance of hygiene and cleanliness
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.
As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
