Financial Assessment Officer

Job Introduction

The Finance Transactions team is looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive person to work within the Financial Assessment and Charging Team.

You’ll be part of a dynamic and energised Finance team, working closely with other city council services such as Adult Social Care.

As a Financial Assessment Officer, you’ll be responsible for calculating Adult Social Care contribution costs and supporting colleagues with answering queries. This is a fast-paced area where no two days are the same, providing lots of opportunities to deliver value for money and improve services to the residents of Milton Keynes.

You’ll have the opportunity to build relationships with colleagues across the city council as well as external colleagues from other local authorities, government departments and other external partners.

We’re seeking someone who is comfortable working with figures and systems, and able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels, a flexible approach to meet business needs and attention to detail is essential.

This will be a home-based role with a requirement to come into our modern and friendly offices once per week.

Main Responsibility

  • Responsible for the prompt and accurate calculation of adult social care client contribution assessments.
  • Provide welfare benefit advice and guidance.
  • Undertake client visits to support the completion of financial assessments.
  • Able to understand relevant financial regulations and statutory guidance.
  • Able to investigate, resolve and respond to service requests and client queries.
  • Able to manage own workload and meet deadlines, while also working as part of a team, supporting colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to A Level/BTEC Level 3 or equivalent experience gained in a similar service.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role, with the ability to travel to visit clients.
  • Excellent IT Skills with good knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Ability to process financial information so that an accurate financial assessment of client contribution costs can be completed.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to work in a customer facing environment.
  • Able to manage and prioritise own workload, whilst at the same time being an effective member of the team.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks a Basic DBS will be actioned for you and BPSS referencing.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
