Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a part-time Facilities Assistant to join our Facilities team at Milton Keynes City Council.
Our Facilities service helps keep council operations running smoothly by providing essential catering, mailroom and workplace support services across our Civic Offices. The team plays an important role in delivering a professional environment for colleagues, visitors and partners, ensuring that key services are provided efficiently every day.
As a Facilities Assistant, you’ll support a range of services including catering, event support, mail distribution, stationery management and customer service. Your work will help ensure colleagues have the resources and support they need to deliver services to the people of Milton Keynes.
Site-Based role
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility
- Coordinate and deliver basic catering services, including supporting staff kitchen areas and maintaining food preparation and service areas to a high standard.
- Support event catering requirements through the preparation of food and coordination of refreshments for customers and visitors.
- Assist with mailroom operations, archiving processes and the management of corporate stationery supplies, including stock ordering.
- Sort and distribute mail, parcels and courier deliveries across Milton Keynes City Council in line with agreed timescales and procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through face-to-face contact and other communication methods.
- Maintain accurate service records and operational information to support catering and mail services.
The Ideal Candidate
- An organised individual who can prioritise workloads, manage competing demands and work accurately to deadlines.
- Experience of using information technology systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
- Comfort working in a physically active role that includes standing, walking, lifting and carrying throughout the working day.
- A positive and flexible approach, including a willingness to work occasional evening hours when required by the service.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and customers while demonstrating our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.
- You hold, or are willing to achieve, a minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and are committed to maintaining this qualification.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.
Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.
Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.
The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
