Job Introduction
Milton Keynes City Council is the largest social housing landlord in Milton Keynes with over 11,500 properties across the city.
As an Estate Supervisor, you’ll manage a caretaking and cleaning team who keep communal areas of housing blocks clean and safe, inside and out.
Working alongside two other Estate Supervisors, you’ll make sure the team conducts safety focused audits and inspections, that the cleaning standards within our blocks are met as scheduled, and any repairs are reported to our maintenance contractors.
Additionally, you’ll co-ordinate, manage and motivate the team including monitoring their performance. You’ll be expected to work with colleagues in Neighbourhood Services, different agencies and stakeholders and to respond to any complaints in a timely manner.
This is a site-based role.

Main Responsibility
- Lead, coordinate and motivate a caretaking and cleaning team, ensuring key objectives are achieved, including the monitoring of productivity, performance and staff behaviours so that high standards are met.
- Responsible for the effective management and oversight of contracted services on estates, including waste collection, health & safety audits, building audits, bulky goods removal, grounds maintenance and pest control.
- Working with the Caretaking Assistants and Caretakers, to ensure they deliver high standards of cleaning and caretaking within our communal areas.
- Implement action plans and take a problem-solving approach to tackling specific issues.
- Take responsibility for ordering equipment and supplies following MKCC procedures and developing processes to ensure the team use and maintain equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Ability to use various IT packages and equipment to monitor performance and stock control.
The Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrate an understanding of excellent people management and how to get the best out of the staff you manage.
- A want to drive service improvement and an understanding of the challenges in the management of housing estates.
- The ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues as well as dealing with enquiries and Stage 1 complaints.
- A true collaborator who is willing to work cross-departmentally and willing to challenge behaviours that do not fit with MKCC ethos.
- Hold a driving licence with the ability to drive fleet vehicles (manual), where available. Evidence of the driving licence will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.
- Ability to assist with ad-hoc manual handling tasks including carrying large/bulky items.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
