Emergency Planning Officer

The city council delivers a wide range of essential services, and incidents and emergencies such as fires or floods have the potential to disrupt these services and the lives of people who live and work here.

As an Emergency Planning Officer, you’ll help make sure we’re ready to respond when the unexpected happens.

Milton Keynes is a vibrant city, home to sporting and entertainment venues that attracts thousands of visitors every year as well as holding music festivals at the National Bowl. This means we have to be prepared for anything.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibility

  • Playing a key role in the response to incidents and emergencies - by providing tactical advice to senior managers, co-ordinating a response or liaising with partners and residents on the ground.
  • Reviewing and updating emergency and business continuity plans and procedures for the Council.
  • Organising and delivering training sessions and exercises.
  • Supporting the development of multi-agency plans working with local partners and across the Thames Valley.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone:

  • with a background or interest in Emergency Planning who is able to learn quickly.
  • who can confidently communicate with a range of people, sometimes in pressurised situations.
  • who will be able to respond calmly when things don't go to plan.
  • who is flexible and willing to work outside of normal office hours when an emergency response is needed.
  • with good IT and written communication skills.

For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
