Direct Payments Officer

Job Introduction

The Finance Transactions team are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive person to work within the Direct Payment Team.

As Direct Payment Officer, you’ll ensure direct payment funds are managed in accordance with contractual arrangements. You’ll work closely with other city council services, such as Adult Social Care and work to provide value for money and improve services for local residents.

This is a fast-paced area where no two days are the same. You’ll join a dynamic and energised finance team and will build relationships with external colleagues from other local authorities, government departments and other external partners.

This is a home-based role with a requirement to come into our Civic offices once per week. A DBS check is also required for this role.

Main Responsibility

  • Administer and deliver a Direct Payments service, and to ensure service users submit all financial returns.
  • Monitor and maintain effective budget management of Direct Payment users.
  • Negotiate with external providers and direct payment users for the recovery of any overpayments.
  • Work with service providers and adult social care colleagues to ensure the correct information is maintained on the systems.
  • Support colleagues with payment and system queries.

  • Comfortable working with figures and systems.
  • Has a flexible approach to meet the business needs.
  • Attention to detail and can communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also on their own initiative.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks a Basic DBS will be actioned for you and BPSS checks.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
