Deputy team manager (16-25 Team)

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced Social Work Practitioner to join our 16-25 team as a Deputy Team Manager. You will work with the team manager to ensure that services are delivered in line with National legislation and policy in relation to Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking children, children in care and care experienced young people.  

As a Deputy Team Manager you will supervise and support social workers and personal advisors, implementing practice developments in line with local and national needs and expectations. You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (degree/diploma), undergo a DBS check and be registered with Social Work England. You will need to have experience of Working with Care Leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers or Looked After Children, service development and supervision experience and understand what good looks like in respect of Social Work practice.

This is a 1 year fixed term contract with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate. 

Main Responsibility

 

  • To undertake regular staff supervisions,  to act in a supportive role whilst assessing  performance in line with MKC policies and procedures.
  • To be supportive of multi disciplinary work, encouraging effective team working, which leads to improved  outcomes.
  • The management of complaints allocated to them by the Team Manager.
  • To take the lead on practice and service development for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children and Care Leavers.

  • ​To ensure that all children and young people in need, in need of protection, and/or in care are safeguarded and their well-being is promoted effectively, through assessment and care planning alongside the application of theory, practice and procedural knowledge.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Professional qualification in Social work with post qualification experience and/or supervisory experience in social care field with Children in care, care experienced young people and Unaccompanied Asylum seeking Children. 
  • Must be self-motivating and able to make difficult decisions and support staff in complex work, experience in supervision is desirable but not essential as training will be provided, commitment to development of staff, within a framework and Social Work England standards.
  • Able to lead and motivate staff to deliver changes in practice, team structures and joint working in line with local and national requirements.
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and information management skills.

  • To possess good written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills with ability to question, challenge, solve problems and complete tasks within variable time frames.
