Contextual Safeguarding Practitioner

Job Introduction

This job is located in the CMET team that act as a consultancy service around missing, exploited and trafficked children within Milton Keynes Children Social Care. The team sits under the wider Youth Offending Service and works closely with Children's Social Care, Youth Offending Service, the police and other agencies to work with young people who are missing, at risk of, or being exploited and trafficked.
The team is expanding and have a new opportunity for a candidate to work with young people and families that need specialised, additional support around contextual safeguarding issues in a person centred and holistic manner.  
The candidate will require a DBS check and hold a current drivers licence.

Main Responsibility

  • Carry out assessments using approved tools and processes within specified timescales so that the needs of children and families who are presenting medium levels of need/risk are clearly identified and recorded.
  • Devise and implement clear intervention plans, appropriate for each case to address identified needs, acting as Lead Professional as required.
  • To have considerable responsibility for supporting children with their families and will be expected to take any steps necessary to safeguard children in accordance with local procedures and legislation.
  • Deliver programmes and training to parents, individually and groups, to improve their confidence and skills in understanding contextual safeguarding concerns and develop safety plans with the families following the conclusion of these programs.
  • Offer bespoke and child centred work to families that have children and young people involved in and around exploitation, youth violence and knife crime.
  • Work closely with other agencies and services in a co-operative way, sharing information and planning and delivering interventions together to meet the needs of the child and family holistically.

The Ideal Candidate

 

  • Would have a relevant NQF* qualification to L3 for Children or equivalent experience and awareness of the legislative/regulatory framework.
  • Has good analytical skills and be able to write/record relevant information to a good level with an ability to use IT effectively.
  • Is able to work independently managing your own workload and time within set timescales. 
  • Has demonstrable evidence of training, relevant work experience or completion of certificates related to exploitation and contextual safeguarding.
  • Has an ability to work as part of a multi-agency team, working co-operatively with other professionals and agencies to meet the needs of children and families.
