Community Safety Officer

Job Introduction

We’re offering a rewarding role for a Community Safety Officer to help reduce crime and disorder and improve how safe residents and visitors feel.

You’ll be an innovative thinker with problem solving skills. You’ll also be a good communicator as you’ll be out and about across the city, talking to residents about their experiences, signposting them to advice and informing them about the city council's community safety initiatives.

We’re part of an established community safety partnership, and this role involves working collaboratively with colleagues from Thames Valley Police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the NHS, schools and beyond, as well as a range of teams across the city council.

Main Responsibility

  • Co-ordinating multi-agency projects to reduce crime and disorder in hotspot areas.
  • Engaging with residents and stakeholders on community safety issues.
  • Conducting an annual public survey and completing strategic needs assessments.
  • Supporting police led operations and delivering joint community safety campaigns.
  • Managing the ASB Case Reviews process, formerly known as Community Triggers.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with partners, particularly our local policing colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Understands and appreciates the benefits of partnership working.
  • Has experience of managing multiple workstreams, tasks and projects.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a team.
  • 5 GCSEs graded 5 or above.
  • Experience of working in a community safety or safeguarding setting is desirable.
  • You must hold a full UK Driving License and have access to a vehicle.
