Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Children's Services Support Officer to join our Children's Services Support Officers Hub at Milton Keynes City Council.

The Children's Services Support Officers Hub provides vital business support across Early Help and Protection, Corporate Parenting, Education including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

By co-ordinating statutory processes and supporting frontline services, we help ensure children, young people and families receive timely and effective support.

Our work is essential to helping the Council deliver its statutory duties and improve outcomes for children and young people.

As a Children's Services Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in keeping services running smoothly and effectively.

You’ll provide high quality business support, co-ordinate meetings and statutory processes, maintain accurate records, support financial administration and help colleagues across Children's Services deliver the best possible outcomes for children and families.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong administrative experience who enjoys working in a busy environment where accuracy, organisation and communication are essential.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility

  • Providing direct business support across Children's Services and maintaining accurate records in line with statutory requirements and service procedures.
  • Co-ordinating statutory meetings, preparing agendas, organising attendance and producing high quality minutes, often of a complex or sensitive nature.
  • Planning panels and meetings, managing diaries and arranging venues for professionals and partner agencies.
  • Processing purchase orders, invoices, financial assessments and related transactions using council systems.
  • Acting as a professional first point of contact for service users, colleagues and partner organisations while maintaining confidentiality and escalating issues when required.
  • Supporting colleagues across Children's Services, helping with induction activities and contributing to the effective delivery of business support services.

The Ideal Candidate

  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or an equivalent qualification, or significant administrative experience in a similar environment.
  • A confident communicator who can adapt your approach for different audiences and handle sensitive or confidential information professionally.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn and use a range of databases and bespoke systems quickly and effectively.
  • Able to manage a varied workload, prioritise tasks and consistently meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Skilled at identifying solutions, supporting change and working collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
  • Committed to delivering excellent service while demonstrating our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.

Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.

Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
