Caretaking Technician

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Caretaking Technician to join our dedicated and friendly team in Operational Services. 

You’ll play an important part in keeping our buildings safe, well-maintained and welcoming. 

Our colleagues work across a varied portfolio of properties, supporting everything from events to essential building safety checks.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands on work, solving problems, using tools and equipment, and working with a wide range of people.

This is a site-based role

Main Responsibility

  • Carrying out routine and reactive maintenance, repairs and caretaking tasks across several sites, always keeping health and safety front of mind.
  • Part of a property team, delivering both direct or supporting contracted services.
  • Setting up spaces for meetings and events, including moving furniture and supporting the use of audio and visual equipment.
  • Working with colleagues and stakeholders to provide support for events, hospitality and Registrars services.
  • Using IT systems, handheld devices and booking software to record tasks and manage workload.
  • Carrying out building checks, including fire safety tests, and completing accurate records.
  • Driving various council vehicles safely and in line with our policies.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A good standard of education, ideally NVQ two or equivalent, including English and Maths.
  • The ability to use competently a range of IT tools, software and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, including hazard awareness and dynamic risk assessments.
  • The ability to plan your own workload, work independently and be adaptable to changing priorities.
  • A respectful, collaborative and dedicated approach that reflects our workplace values.
  • To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If you’re offered the position, we’ll ask for proof of your licence and vehicle insurance, including business use cover. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to confirm your appointment without these documents.
  • If you are offered the role, we will carry out a Basic DBS check.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
