Job Introduction

We have a new role tutoring Functional Skills English and/or GCSE English to adult learners in an inclusive learning environment.

You’ll have experience tutoring English and a recognised teaching qualification at level 3 or 4 or will be working towards this.

You’ll plan and deliver educational packages to learners aged 19 and above using approved planning tools such as a scheme of work, session plans, individual learning plans, and practitioner reviews.

You’ll apply a full range of teaching/learning and assessment strategies to deliver courses that meet the needs of the community as well as the targets you’ll be set.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Main Responsibility

  • To plan and deliver effective English functional skills and/or GCSE English learning programmes to diverse groups in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • To motivate and inspire learners to promote achievement and develop their skills to enable progression.
  • Maintain accurate records to meet funding and quality requirements.
  • Work to comply, promote and contribute to all practices and policies including Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Prevent, on-line safety, and Equality and Diversity.
  • Commit to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training including adhering to the principles and practice of Continuous Professional Development.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent significant FE/Adult teaching experience in own specialist subject - English - which demonstrates the ability to work at this level.
  • Possess or working towards a recognised teaching qualification at level 3 or 4.
  • Participates in regular continuous professional development (CPD) with an up to date CPD log and maintains up to date knowledge of the subject area and educational research to develop evidence-based practice.
  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • Ability to use IT e.g., emails, internet research for educational materials, MS Word, PowerPoint and online learning environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OFSTED requirements.
  • Knowledge of the barriers to learning faced by adults.
