Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a Business Support Assistant to join our Corporate Procurement team.
Corporate Procurement plays an important role in helping Milton Keynes City Council secure the goods, services and works needed to deliver services for local people. The team supports procurement activity across the organisation and helps ensure purchasing processes are fair, transparent and efficient.
As a Business Support Assistant, you’ll provide essential administrative support to the team, helping to maintain procurement records, coordinate information, manage enquiries and support procurement projects through a range of systems and processes. Your work will help colleagues across the council deliver services that make a positive difference to residents every day.
This role would suit someone who enjoys organisation, has strong administration skills and takes pride in providing a reliable and customer-focused service.
Although this role is offered on a full-time basis, we will also consider part-time applications of at least three days per week. If shortlisted, we’d welcome a conversation at interview about the working pattern that best suits your circumstances and the needs of the service.
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility
- Creating and maintaining procurement documents, letters, spreadsheets and reports.
- Managing the Corporate Procurement email inbox and responding to routine enquiries.
- Supporting procurement projects through the council's electronic tendering systems and processes.
- Arranging meetings, maintaining project records and ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
- Recording, monitoring and reporting procurement and contract information using relevant databases and systems.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to support the efficient delivery of procurement activity.
The Ideal Candidate
- You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy providing high-quality administrative support and keeping important processes running smoothly.
- Evidence of strong Microsoft Office and information technology skills, including accurate data entry.
- A confident communicator who can adapt their approach when speaking or writing to different audiences.
- Experience of prioritising tasks and managing competing deadlines effectively.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally and appropriately.
- Experience of working with computerised financial management systems.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.
Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.
Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.
The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
