Business Support Assistant: Young Peoples Drug and Alcohol Service

Job Introduction

We have an exciting new opportunity available within the Young Peoples Drug and Alcohol service. This role is perfect for someone interested in working with young people who are affected by substance use but lack experience and skill. 
The successful candidate will help support the team by carrying out administrative tasks, expanding on their knowledge and experience by co-facilitating drug and alcohol awareness training sessions, and supporting staff when working with young people when appropriate.

The YPDA service work with young people up to the age of 18 (up to 25 with additional needs), who are affected by their own or someone else`s substance use. We also provide drug and alcohol awareness training sessions for professionals, parents/carers, and schools. Managed under the umbrella of Youth Offending Service (YOS) we work collaboratively with the Youth Offending team (YOT), Stay Safe and Missing and Exploitation teams. Working as part of YOS enables staff to effectively provide the best support options for young people who may present with varied complex needs. 

Enhanced DBS, driving licence and access to vehicle are required for this role. There can be flexibility regarding working hours, as long as these fit in with service provision.

Main Responsibility

  • Providing administrative support to the team.
  • Providing a polite and professional first point of contact for any young people, parents/carers, professional staff contacting the YPDA service.
  • Ensuring all information is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Co-facilitating drug and alcohol training sessions to professionals and young people.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including IT skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people and other professionals.
  • An interest and aptitude for empathy, care and respect when working with those affected by substance use.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the team.
