Business Intelligence Officer

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting Business Intelligence Officers to join our Children’s Services team at Milton Keynes City Council. This is a rewarding role where your insight, analysis and reporting will help shape services for children and young people across Milton Keynes.

There are two posts within Children’s Services.

One post sits within the Access to Education, Employment and Training service, and the other sits within the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Partnership team.

Working within Children’s Services, you'll provide high-quality business intelligence, analysis and research that supports service planning for children, young people and families across Milton Keynes.

You'll analyse data, identify trends and produce insight that helps colleagues make informed decisions and improve services. Working across a range of Children’s Services priorities, including social care place planning, special educational needs and disabilities, and statutory data returns, you'll help shape effective services and positive outcomes for local people.

Through accurate reporting and evidence-based recommendations, you'll play a key role in supporting strategic planning and future service development.

Access to Education, Employment and Training service
This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Partnership team
This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Main Responsibility

  • Manage and provide high-quality business intelligence that supports service planning, statutory responsibilities and future sufficiency across Children’s Services.
  • Analyse complex data and identify trends, future pressures and opportunities to improve services, policy and provision.
  • Produce accessible, accurate and well-presented reports that help managers and stakeholders understand performance and make informed decisions.
  • Ensure statutory returns and performance information are completed accurately, on time and to a high standard.
  • Research and develop effective approaches to data collection, storage and analysis, making the best use of available technology and management information systems.
  • Support effective data quality, data security and information-sharing arrangements through partnership working with colleagues and stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate

  • National Qualifications Framework Level five (degree level) qualification in a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience working with complex datasets.
  • The ability to collect, interpret and communicate complex information clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data and evidence into practical recommendations and solutions.
  • A genuine interest in exploring information, identifying patterns and using evidence to influence decision-making.
  • The ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively and take ownership of their work.
  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.

Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.

Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.

Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
