Building Surveyor - Housing

Job Introduction

We're seeking a building surveyor with experience in structural engineering to join our Housing Maintenance and Investment Team to help look after our 11,000+ homes across Milton Keynes. 

You'll work with our maintenance contractor and other MKCC teams to ensure our homes are safe and maintained to our standards and specifications. 

Ideally, you'll have worked on housing stock before and enjoy taking decisions at pace which deliver the most appropriate outcome for residents and our homes.

This is a site based role.

Where possible interviews may be arranged with ideal candidates upon receipt of applications and may be prior to the closing of the job advert. Otherwise interviews are planned to be conducted 12 August.

Main Responsibility

  • Carrying out inspections of properties on a responsive and proactive basis to investigate, identify and specify required works.
  • Writing and providing technical reports to inform on remediation options, along with reviewing volumes of reports or data to help inform decisions.
  • Checking work is done correctly and to the required standard, working closely with our contractors and tenants to ensure clear communication throughout the process.
  • You should bring a breadth of experience relevant to building surveying and structural engineering, along with a positive proactive approach.
  • Setting and following processes and updating on works done or issues found.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Able to, and enjoys making pragmatic decisions at pace and with transparency. 
  • Building surveying or structural engineering degree or equivalent qualifications. 
  • Proven working knowledge of the regulations relating to housing and housing management. 
  • A proactive approach in working across teams to fix issues when they arise. 
  • Detail orientated and cares about ensuring the safety of our residents.

For this role, the candidate is required to have a full UK driving licence, along with access to a vehicle. Evidence of the driving licence and vehicle insurance with business insurance will be required from the candidate should they be offered this position. Without this documentation the candidate will not be appointable.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
