Associate Auditor

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

We’re seeking a motivated, flexible and enthusiastic person to join our Internal Audit, Risk and Counter Fraud team as an Associate Auditor.

This is a graduate trainee role so no previous experience of internal audit is necessary. You just need to have an enquiring mind, a curiosity to understand how things work and the desire to make them better.

The team undertakes audits and other assignments to inform an evidence-based opinion over the city council’s governance, risk and control framework. The scope of this includes all council operations, resources, services and responsibilities. This helps teams to continuously improve.

We also undertake disciplinary investigations and support the city council’s risk management processes.

As an Associate Auditor you’ll initially be assisting and then undertake internal audits yourself.

Milton Keynes City Council is a modern and friendly place to work. We offer an excellent benefits package including an enhanced pension, generous holiday allowance starting at 28 days as well as a great range of training and development opportunities to help you in your career. Colleagues may be site-based or home-based, depending on the needs of the role and their own preference.

Main Responsibility

  • Assist in the delivery of audit assignments as directed by the Audit and Risk Manager with a view to taking ownership of whole audit assignments as your experience develops.
  • As experience develops discuss audit findings and agree any actions required and the report with all relevant officers.
  • Undertake professional study and apply that learning in the delivery of the role.
  • Ensure that all work completed is performed in accordance with the Audit Manual and meet the requirements of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.
  • Maintain effective relationships with all parties that would be associated with the delivery of an effective internal audit service.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team to deliver all agreed work programs, delivering solid performance under pressure.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree Educated, 2 A-levels or equivalent, GCSE English Language and Mathematics.
  • A willingness to study for and complete the IIA’s Certified Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Enthusiastic interest around Internal Audit, Risk and Governance principles and practice.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally.
  • Self-motivated, able to use own initiative and work within tight timescales.

Package Description

In addition to your salary, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • Great holiday benefits - most roles include 28 days annual leave every year on top of public (bank) holidays, increasing to 32 days after five years.  In addition, there is a holiday purchase scheme allowing staff to purchase up to 5 additional days of leave each year.
  • Excellent pension – everyone who works for us can join the national Local Government Pension Scheme, widely regarded as one of the best available.
  • A full range of family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, adoption and paternity support and a childcare subsidy.
  • Access to an award-winning employee benefits programme that includes a health cash plan, a low-cost bike purchase scheme as well as high street discounts and money off entertainment and travel.
  • Blue Light Card - employees working within social care can qualify for an additional range of discounts from national retailers and local businesses.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
